Street Legal “Cracks” Preview

With just two episodes left this season, Street Legal delivers its most emotional hour yet. And as a bonus to the standout performances across the board, our fave Allan Hawco pops in as a deliciously cocky attorney.

[Warning: General spoilers ahead.]

The big pharma case moves to trial — and I do appreciate that we got there this fast. Olivia and Lilly face off against Giulia and Hawco’s Cole Haney. Thankfully Olivia has a friendly history with the judge, Leon Robinovitch, played by original series cast member Eric Peterson, who we also love from Corner Gas. That only gets her so far when a cross-examination goes off the rails.

Lilly is second chair but her focus is split because Adam’s is, too, and she somewhat oversteps the line between friend and family. Although armed with Adam’s best interests, her actions are ill-informed and ill-advised.

They do, however, push Adam and his parents to have long-overdue conversations as they move toward a new normal. Look for exquisite scene work between Steve Lund, Rosemary Dunsmore, and Tom McCamus as they try to unpack a lifetime of things unsaid.

On the case front, Mina pushes for the sudden changes that are happening in the courtroom to shift their strategy, too, which Olivia vetoes. And she becomes Adam’s wingman as he watches from the sidelines.

She also steps in when his personal situation escalates. That gives us another terrific scene between Lund and Yvonne Chapman where we see exactly how close Adam and Mina are. There’s a fantastic rewind-and-repeat moment where an untrue thing is said, understood, and accepted when the truth is far too painful to give a voice to.

Hawco is great as a defense attorney who’s usually brought in as the closer. And it’s fun to see Peterson assert himself on the bench and in quarters when his lawyers go rogue. Lynne Kamm wrote the episode, which was directed by Chloé Robichaud
