Season 2 of Helix will have two new faces — Syfy announced earlier today that Steven Weber and Matt Long have joined the cast.
Filming is currently under way in Montreal for their 13-episode second season. When it returns, we’ll see the CDC doctors “investigating a deadly outbreak of a new disease on a Windjammer cruise ship.Their investigation leads them to a mysterious island inhabited by a cult with the hope of creating a utopian society.”
Long joins as a series regular. He’ll be playing Dr. Kyle Sommer, described as “the newest member of the CDC team, a world-class toxicologist whose charm matches his sharp intellect. A preacher’s son from Texas, he is quick with a story or a joke, able to ingratiate himself into any group.” Long was last seen on the abruptly canceled ABC series Lucky 7, as well as on Private Practice.
Weber will be a recurring guest star. His character, Brother Michael, is the “charismatic leader of the cult. Magnetic and charming, he is brilliant speaker and sermonizer, but also a first-class geneticist.” Weber was on this summer’s ABC Family series Chasing Life and also on TNT’s Murder in the First.
Helix is set to return in Winter 2015.
