Sons of Anarchy S6 Countdown: Ron Perlman

As we continue our countdown to the Sons of Anarchy Season 6 premiere, it’s time for another press room clip from last month’s San Diego Comic-Con!

This one features Ron Perlman. Clay Morrow has been the character that we love to hate, but at the same time, I can almost empathize with him and see what motivates him. He was taken out in cuffs at the end of last season, framed for Damon Pope’s murder, and there’s a price on his head.

You can watch the full video below, but here are some highlights:

– A word that Kurt Sutter used to describe Clay in Season 6 is redemption. Perlman said that Clay is at the end of his run in the club, as a husband, and as a stepfather, so he’s decided to try to “put his house in order.”
– There’s a $5 million price on his head when he gets to prison, and Clay’s in a place where he could be killed the moment he walks in the door. Early on, we’ll see what that moment looks and feels like.
– Perlman shared that he never thinks of the characters he plays as “good guys” or “bad guys”, but rather focuses on what he loves about the character and what the character loves about himself.
– He likened Clay to a king, and like many great kings, they “run the gamut from benevolent to evil,” but they always stay true to keeping their kingdom “whole, safe, autonomous and independent, and sometimes, that doesn’t look pretty.”

Sons of Anarchy returns on Tuesday, September 10 at 10pm ET/PT on FX in the US and on Super Channel in Canada.
