The Walking Dead’s Return to New York Comic Con!

Last weekend, TheTelevixen.com was thrilled to return to New York Comic Con, and we weren’t the only ones making a repeat performance – AMC series The Walking Dead was back for a second year as well!

The panel – which featured stars Chandler Riggs (Carl), Laurie Holden (Andrea), Norman Reedus (Daryl), Steven Yeun (Glenn) and Jon Bernthal (Shane), new cast member Lauren Cohan (Maggie), as well as exec producer Gale Anne Hurd , co-exec producer and make-up genius Greg Nicotero, and the man who started it all, Robert Kirkman – was a hot ticket yet again this year in a jam packed IGN Theater. If I hadn’t been at last year’s Walking Dead panel at NYCC, I would have thought everyone was in there this year for the Avengers panel that would follow, but knowing that hundreds of people were turned away in 2010, Walking Dead is definitely still a force to be reckoned with at this con!

We were treated to a heart stopping scene from last Sunday’s Season 2 premiere, which included Andrea’s very first zombie kill, then moderator Chris Hardwick started the Q&A. (Speaking of Hardwick, can I just say he has to be one of my favourite moderators EVER?!?) They were fairly tight-lipped on most of what’s in store this season, but here’s just a bit of what they shared:

-Laurie Holden (Andrea) said that her zombie kill in the Season 2 premiere  is her “first”, which to me insinuated that we’re going to see her take on some more – yay zombie smackdowns!

-Glenn’s getting a little romance this season with new character, Maggie (boom-chick-a-wow-wow). With how bleak things are for these characters, some romance and humour – as long as they’re not contrived – are welcome additions.

-Newcomer Lauren Cohan mentioned that she has never worked on anything so intense, and said that she “never knew TV could feel like theatre”. She also commented that the set is incredible, and “one of the most magical places” she’s ever been.

-The panel commented on Season 2 being “so intense”, and that the calibre of each episode makes it feel like 13 one-hour movies.

As a side note, Chandler Riggs and Norman Reedus were adorable with their little on-stage hijinks.

The Walking Dead was a definite highlight of our weekend at New York Comic Con, and we’ve still got more to share with you from it – a photo gallery featuring the panelists! Check back for it soon.
