The Bletchley Circle: San Francisco concludes its first season, and last week’s episode, with a finale that proves just how close these women have become and they lengths to which they’ll go to protect each other.
[Warning: General spoilers ahead.]
Jean is still in quite the predicament, held hostage for reasons that perhaps aren’t as clear-cut as they would seem. Millie, Iris, and Olivia have their own situation now that there’s another dead Russian on their hands.
Hailey is on the run with Ilya, who isn’t quite what he seems, either. She and Iris go to Deborah for help, but hit a dead end. Then, an increasingly frantic Millie gets no further with Bill.
It soon becomes clear that Jean’s best bet is the foursome of women — Millie, Iris, Hailey, and Olivia — standing in her apartment.
Once again, they’re on the own. The rescue becomes a nailbiter caper as Jean’s captors run down the clock while the women try to find her. And there’s the larger double murder to solve.
It’s a quick-paced hour that wraps up the first season and teases out what could be an intriguing hook to begin a second. I do hope they get it. No word on that yet. The episode was written by showrunner Michael MacLennan and Laura Good and directed by David Frazee, who also directed last week’s episode.
The Bletchley Circle: San Francisco airs tonight at 8pm ET on CityTV.
The first seven episodes are available online now at the network’s website and through your cable provider sign-in. The entire season is streaming on BritBox in the US.
