[Warning: General spoilers ahead.]
Diggstown‘s Vinessa Antoine is back on CBC Gem this weekend starring in the second season of the “woulda, coulda, shoulda” time-bending drama series, Plan B. This time around, the reset agency finds itself at the disposal of Montreal police office Mia Coleman, a 17-year veteran who’s still on the streets in a uniform despite her tenure.
When in the course of her day, she happens upon a crime scene where the victim was on the line with the agency, she’s puzzled by the menu options, but writes the number down anyway.
It doesn’t take long for it to come in handy when she and her partner Tyler (Patrick Emmanuel Abelard) are called to a domestic violence dispute between Paul Whitman (Vincent Leclerc) and his wife, Keri (Sarah Booth), and Tyler’s decision to go against Mia’s instinct has tragic consequences.
That this happens on her 40th birthday, when her sister, Liz (Bethany Brown). stands her up for their day out as she’s still reeling from a fractious breakup with Bryson (Rossif Sutherland) and custody dispute of her own, she remembers the number and rolls the dice on a reset.
As we saw last season (and our French-Canadian friends have seen in the subsequent French seasons), sometimes its best to leave things alone, no matter the heartache.
Mia learns that pretty quickly, but ever resilient, isn’t defeated and spins the wheel again. There are six episodes, so you can see how this will go. She also soon realizes that every time she starts over, she’s adjusting not just her own reality but the reality of everyone around her.
It’s a solid Sliding Doors-style family drama and procedural and Antoine is fantastic as the heart of the story, supported by a terrific ensemble cast. Season 2 of Plan B is the English language adaptation of Season 3 of the original Quebecois French language series from Ici Radio-Canada Télé. Both versions were co-created and co-written by Jean-François Asselin and Jacques Drolet, with actor/comedian/writer Louis Morissette as producer.
Asselin is co-showrunner with Morrissette of Season 2, directing all of the episodes, which he co-writes with Celeste Parr.
All six episodes of Plan B Season 2 will be available on CBC Gem this Sunday, August 11 at 9 am ET. Here’s a sneak peek.
