On Location with Nikita’s Lyndie Greenwood

It was an unseasonably balmy September day in Toronto when we visited Nikita on location as they filmed one of their final episodes. We  had the chance to chat with some of the Nikita cast, including Lyndie Greenwood, who plays Sonya (and also happens to be rockin’ it on Sleepy Hollow at the moment). Here is what she had to share about the upcoming season, Sonya and Birkhoff’s future, and more!

Division is gone and there’s a new mobile base of operations. What is Sonya’s role in the upcoming episodes?

Well, Sonya and Alex have been on the road for a little bit. They’ve sort of paired up and run missions together, so it’s a nice sort of girl duo there. A nice relationship that I’d like to explore further if we had more than six episodes.

It’s been a rocky road for Sonya and Birkhoff. Where is their relationship at when the season begins?

They’re together. They’re still together. They’ve made it through the woods of the last season, and I think they’re pretty solid. You don’t actually see much of them physically together, but the bond is there, they’re still very much a couple.

Will Amanda be coming into play again to mess with your life?

Amanda messes everything up all the time for everybody. She’s so awful. She’s an amazing character though, right? She’s great.

And you would know that because your character has been one of her more recent pawns.

Oh yeah, Sonya’s so glad to get rid of Amanda. I mean it was terrifying to work with her and I guess in the last season we saw Sonya just very, very narrowly escape Amanda’s clutches. There’s not too much direct interaction between Sonya and Amanda any more but I think that that’s to be expected.

With this season only being six episodes, does it almost feel like a different show?

It does in a way, but I think that’s good because we know it’s coming to an end, so it’s good to be able to have it feel like it’s coming to its conclusion. I think that’s a gift really, because a lot of shows don’t get that opportunity. It does have a bit of a different vibe but it’s more of a vibe of like we know we’re coming to an end and we’re actually going to wrap everything up and we’re happy about that. There are conclusions, very real conclusions.

With it being a final season and the possibility that not everyone will make it out alive, what would you personally like to see as Sonya’s end game?

That’s a tough one. I mean I would like to see Sonya live happily ever after, I guess …

With Birkhoff?

Oh yeah, for sure. I don’t know how it will go, but that would be nice, I think.

Do you think a happy ending is possible for any of these characters?

Anything’s possible, but it’s also kind of a dark show, right? It’s not as flowery as all that. It could go either way.

If you could tease one thing about the final season, what would it be?

Twists. Definitely twists all over the place. Don’t ever get too comfortable with what you know about what’s happening, because you’re probably wrong.
