Doctor Who 50th Anniversary Cast Announced!

The TV world is abuzz today with the return of Doctor Who and its Season 7.5 episode “The Bells of St. John” – and what better time for the official casting announcement to arrive for the upcoming Doctor Who 50th Anniversary!

Both David Tennant and Billie Piper will join the current Doctor and companion, Matt Smith and Jenna-Louise Coleman. Please give me a moment to fangirl hardcore (Ten and Rose are my absolute faves).

Legendary film star John Hurt (Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy, Alien, Harry Potter) will also co-star. Filming of the 50th Anniversary starts this week in the UK. I cannot wait to see what type of weird and wacky story will bring them all together!

The one person who will be sadly lacking from this in my eyes is John Barrowman – Captain Jack Harkness is such an iconic character, not to mention such an important part of the Who-niverse. He will be a part of an all-new special, though. Doctor Who: The Companions premieres tomorrow, March 31, at 7pm ET/PT on BBC America. As we welcome the the Doctor’s newest companion, Clara Oswald, companions of Doctors past and present chat about how the show changed their lives, and how they’ve never quite managed to leave the TARDIS behind. Matt Smith and David Tennant will be joined by Barrowman, Arthur Darvill (Rory) and Noel Clarke (Mickey).
