It’s Mother’s Day, and who better to talk TV motherhood with other than the woman behind The Goldbergs‘ world-class (s)mother Beverly Goldberg, Wendi McLendon-Covey!
While interviewing the cast at the ATX Festival last year, I asked Wendi about which, if any, iconic TV moms over the years influenced her performance. Here’s what she shared:
No TV moms. I really looked to the real Bev Goldberg, who does exist, and to my own mother, who was a smother and will not admit it. I’d say it’s about 80% real Bev and 20% my own mom because I understand that bipolar thing of “Your karate is the most brilliant thing in the world, go make your bed, even Wayne Gretzky makes his bed,” the “I love you so much, you’re the most brilliant thing in the world, why are you such an idiot.”
Happy (S)Mother’s Day, everyone, and who knows … your mom could be the inspiration for the next great TV mom! And if you’re looking for the perfect e-card for a TV-loving mom in your life, check out these awesome Beverly Goldberg Mother’s Day cards!
