Torchwood Will Return in 2011!

This is the news that I’ve been waiting for since the gutwrenching conclusion of last year’s Torchwood: Children of Earth. There will be a Season 4 of the series, set to air in the summer of 2011, courtesy of BBC in the UK and Starz in the US!

I first got wind of the glorious news via Maureen Ryan’s blog, The Watcher (@moryan on Twitter), which revealed:

“Russell T Davies, who created the “Doctor Who” spinoff in 2006, will be back as “Torchwood’s” showrunner, John Barrowman will star as Captain Jack Harkness and Eve Myles will return as Gwen Cooper.”

The Hollywood Reporter’s Life Feed quickly followed with an interview with Russell T. Davies, which revealed a taste of what we can expect:

“It’s very much the next step. It’s not a new version, it’s not a reboot. We’re simply moving countries. The show was previously a format show — monster of the week. The breakthrough was “Children of Earth” and that it became one long story. It’s not going to be ‘Lost’ and take 20 years to find out what’s going on. It’s going to have a most remarkable conclusion after 10 episodes.”

It wasn’t long before Torchwood star John Barrowman tweeted (via @Team_Barrowman):

“TORCHWOOD IS COMING BACK! I am on cloud nine and thrilled with this news.”

This Televixen is ecstatic that Torchwood is finally getting its fourth season AND that Eve Myles is going to be part of it. Gwen has always been my favourite character on the show, and although I probably would have still checked out a Torchwood without Eve Myles, I think it just wouldn’t be the same for me. I’m also happy that us fans can put our worries at rest that a Torchwood on a major US network could result in a less risque series. Oh, and please please please can we NOT have any appearances from the Eleventh Doctor? Despite my best efforts, I’m just not feeling the same vibe from Matt Smith that I got from Christopher Eccleston and the incomparable David Tennant.

So, who else is having a Happy Monday as a result of this news? Sound off with your thoughts below!
