The Murders Preview: “Black & Blue” and “In My Feelings”

The Murders rolls out a double feature tonight on CityTV with a pair of episodes airing back to back starting at 9pm ET.

The Murders

[Warning: General spoilers ahead.]

“Black & Blue,” the first episode, follows the team as they investigate the murder of a rising rap star’s bodyguard. What looks like a straight-up flame war that caught up an innocent bystander turns out to be much more complicated, and contemporary.

The Murders

Nolan and Kate find an easier footing as he admits he’s not handling the split from his wife very well and she shares some of her own recent personal struggles. It’s a solid episode that takes a bit of a different view on escalating tensions in the music industry and the role of the tabloid press.

The Murders

Kristin Lehman directs a script by Gemma Holdway. Look for Ghost Wars’ Carmel Amit as a surprising asset to the investigation and Synto D. Misati (The Magicians) and Austin Obiajunwa (Bletchley Circle: San Francisco) as Lil Rex and DB Kane, the competing rappers.

The Murders

“In My Feelings” is a treat for the Da Vinci’s Inquest fans as it’s the first time Venus Terzo and Ian Tracey have worked together since that series ended over a decade ago.

The Murders

Terzo of course plays Kate’s mom, Rita, who’s currently running for mayor. Tracey is a most unwelcome blast from her past when she worked as prosecutor. Pretty soon his unexpected visit to her headquarters becomes a hostage situation that involves Kate and the department.

The Murders

It’s a taut hour. Rita face old demons, and Kate face her relationship with her mom. And she and Nolan figure out the partnership/friendship thing. Y’all know I’ll take Tracey anywhere. I love that we got him and Terzo together again here, in very different circumstances. If you never saw Da Vinci’s Inquest we can’t be friends, the two played partnered police detectives on that series during part of its run. Jill Carter directs a script by Karen Hill.

The Murders airs tonight at 9 pm and 10 pm/9 and 8c on Citytv. Here’s a sneak peek.
