The Event Makes an Appearance at TIFF

I am always on the lookout for interesting TV promo campaigns, and I just happened to come across one while waiting in the rush line outside Roy Thomson Hall as I attempted to get tickets to one of the TIFF ’10 Galas.

A group of guys were marching silently up and down the sidewalk carrying signs with slogans such as “Everything is Under Control”, “This Ends Now”, and “Let Us Go”. Upon further investigation, it turned out this was in support of the very mysterious new series The Event, which debuts tonight on NBC in the US and CityTV in Canada.

I had a brief chat with one of the guys taking part in the promotional event, and he shared that they were attracting a lot of attention, but had actually been asked by TIFF staff to leave the area immediately outside Roy Thomson Hall.

Did anyone else catch similar promos, either in Toronto or other North American cities? And do you think this is an effective way to spark interest in a new series?

And don’t forget, Katherine Welsh will be bringing us weekly recaps on The Event right here at TheTelevixen.com.
