I wouldn’t describe 99% of my TV viewing as compelling and difficult to watch at the same time, but that’s the only way I can describe Durham County.
The first season hit close to home. I was a teen, just about to start high school right around the time a serial killer, Paul Bernardo, targeted school girls in Southern Ontario, putting us all on edge. I nearly turned the television off a few times in the first episode of Durham County alone, but I needed to know what was going to happen next.
Season 2 was released on DVD in Canada today. If you didn’t see it when it aired last year, now’s your chance to catch up before Season 3. And I must mention that it’s even darker than the first season. Homicide detective Mike Sweeney (Hugh Dillon) and his family are trying to recover from the drama they suffered at the hands of serial killer Ray Prager in Season 1. A new character is also introduced, forensic psychiatrist Pen Verrity, played by the always brilliant Michelle Forbes.
This is some of the finest television out there, Canadian or otherwise. I highly recommend Durham County for anyone who appreciates intense drama, complex characters, and exceptional writing.

Love Durham County. Pnce you start watching you can’t stop. Great actors and story lines. Have ordered season 2 should have in a few days. Now I just need to see season 3 and then get that DVD.
