Angie (Cindy Sampson) and Shade (Jason Priestley) are back in business at Everett Investigations for Season 2 of Private Eyes, premiering Thursday night at 8pm ET/PT on Global TV.
[Warning: General spoilers ahead.]
The premiere finds the team quickly reunited after Angie’s shortened vacation and immediately working on a new case for one of Shade’s old friends, Emilia Mantella (Continuum and This Life‘s Rachel Crawford).
The setting is the race track, which is old home to Priestley, who also directs the episode. It also features a cameo by Canadian IndyCar driver James Hinchcliffe.
Here’s what Priestley had to say about stepping behind the camera:
“Production really wanted me to direct that episode because of my history with driving racecars. It was a lot of fun to direct that episode, obviously because that’s a world I’m very familiar with. Going back to Mosport where we shot all the racing and track scenes was a lot of fun too because that’s a racetrack I spent a lot of years racing at.”
Elsewhere in the opener, Angie is trying to find her footing with Nolan (Clé Bennett) after their awkward holiday together and even more awkward return home. Shade is navigating his own relationships as he bumps up against the new custody arrangement with Becca (Nicole de Boer). He is also struggling to keep the same rhythm he had with Jules (Jordyn Negri) now that she’s not under his roof.
As for Angie and Shade, they hit the ground running with their same infectious, easygoing banter, and find out they’re actually a pretty good team at this detecting stuff. It’s a great first episode back for Private Eyes, and immediately hooks you into wanting to see what’s next for them.
A New Addition
In addition to the return of all the core cast, there are also a few changes on the horizon for the second season’s super-sized 18 episodes. We’re getting a new recurring cast member as Angie and Shade’s business takes off. They hire a quirky new assistant, Zoe Chow (Second Jen‘s Samantha Wan), who acts as a buffer and translator when Shade and Angie fall into their old habits.
Guest Stars
Several guest stars have been announced, including a couple of Haven alumni (a nod to EP Shawn Piller and Lloyd Segan‘s old stomping grounds). Bree Williamson will recur as a new love interest for Shade. William Shatner appears in Episode 6 as a rival PI. Dark Matter‘s Anthony Lemke visits in Episode 2, and Bitten‘s Genelle Williams stars in Episode 3. Angie also gets a love interest with the return of her ex-fiancé, Dr. Ken Graham, played by Slasher‘s Mark Ghanimé.
If you need to catch up on Private Eyes before Thursday’s premiere, episodes are unlocked and online, and also on DVD.
