Previewing Teen Wolf’s Two-Night Season 5 Premiere

It seems like it’s been such a long time since we’ve been in Beacon Hills, so I went back and looked. The fourth season finale aired September 8th, 2014. 295 days ago, counting today — almost ten months! And I had to search my brain about what exactly happened last season (The Benefactor + Kate) because I’d deleted all those episodes off the DVR. None of them were permanent keepers, and that made me a little nostalgic for the earlier seasons, of which I still have a few episodes.

I think I also saw (and maybe felt) some fatigue, if that’s the right word, after we’d had such a massive 24-episode third season? Anyway, we’re finally back tonight, and I have no doubt that I will be sucked right back in, but in some ways, I was ready for this a month ago. It’s been a long, long wait.

And the other piece of that is that summer TV 2015 is packed. When Teen Wolf began four years ago, the landscape was very different. Now there are new shows every night on multiple networks, plus streaming, to pull viewer attention.

Tonight’s Teen Wolf premiere teases MTV’s adaptation of the Scream film series, so they’re hoping for a lot of transfer / holdover viewers. The second part of the finale airs an hour earlier on Tuesday at 9/8c to lead into the actual premiere of Scream.

Here’s what to expect this season (SPOILERS AHEAD): On the eve of Senior Year, Scott and his friends find themselves facing the possibility of a future without each other, a next phase of their lives that might take them in different directions despite their best intentions. Little do they know that outside forces are already plotting to break the pack apart long before they ever see graduation.

Teen Wolf marathons all day today on MTV in the U.S. The season premiere, “Creatures of the Night,” airs tonight at 10/9c on MTV in the U.S. and 10 pm e/7 p in Canada. The second episode, “Parasomnia,” airs Tuesday at 9/8c on MTV in the U.S. and 9 pm e/6 p in Canada. Regular episodes will air every Monday at 10/9c on MTV in the U.S. and 10 pm e/7 p in Canada.

Here are a couple of sneak peeks, and the opening scene for tonight’s episode. If you need a little reminder of where we left off, click here for our Season 4 recaps.
