With the Season 4 finale of Orphan Black set to air tonight, Space has announced that the series has been renewed for a fifth and final season.
Premiering in 2017, Orphan Black will conclude its story with a 10-episode Season 5 run.
Corrie Coe, Senior Vice-President of Independent Production at Bell Media commented on the renewal:
“The fourth season took viewers down a rabbit hole deeper into the heart of the conspiracy and explored what viewers were yearning to see – Beth’s back story. After the roller coaster ride of Season 4, we were left on the edge of our seats. Season 5 promises to take us into uncharted territories, where the stakes are higher than ever. Knowing the prowess of the ORPHAN BLACK creative team, I’d say, fasten your seatbelts.”
Co-creators Graeme Manson and John Fawcett added:
“We are excited to deliver an epic conclusion to the tale of Sarah and her clone sisters. The past four seasons have been a phenomenal adventure and we are eternally grateful to our loyal fans who have loved the twists and thrills of our weird little show. We are thankful to our partners at Temple Street, Space and BBC America for their support, and giving us the opportunity to end on a high.”
There’s no denying the impact that Orphan Black has had on genre television, let alone TV in general, and although I will miss seeing what our sestras get up to, it’s always good to go out on top. This way, the team behind the show can work toward wrapping this story in a way that is hopefully satisfying to them and to the fans.
What do you think about the news? Are you happy that Orphan Black will be getting a proper ending with the announcement of its final season? Or did you want there to be more than five seasons?
