That season opener of Nikita was quite a heart-stopping ride, so before tonight’s new episode, let’s return to our location visit in Toronto this past September and chat with Shane West. He shared a bit about the final episodes, going up against The Shop, and whether there’s a future for Michael and Nikita.
What can you tell us about Michael’s headspace at the start of the season?
What I like to say is that I feel like this was the time for Michael to revert back into Season 1 and how he was when he was at Division, and possibly even before Season 1. He’s been through a lot and he’s been hurt a lot and this is kind of that final straw. You know that he’ll always care about [Nikita] and he’ll always love her and vice versa. But the struggle that he has this year with her, his main struggle for this year, they save her and everything is OK in the beginning right off the bat, [but] is their relationship going to continue or is it just that they’re going to be great partners, great people to work with? Once they clear her name are they actually going to be together again?
Without a fixed base of operations, how will they go about clearing Nikita’s name and taking on The Shop?
We’re all on the run, [not just Nikita]. We have an amazing airplane that’s our base of operation, that’s what keeps us in and out of the air, keeps us out of harm’s way most of the time. That’s how we’re able to accomplish that stuff. Alex is still on the ground trying to do the same thing from the ground with the help of Sam. We only have six [episodes]. There’s no filler. There’s no Episode 12. So we’ve managed [in] the four that we’ve shot and the five that we’re in the middle of shooting, to accomplish almost everything that has needed to be accomplished in the six [and] we’re really hoping that Episode 6 doesn’t bum us all out. I can honestly say to the fans now that the first five [episodes], at least, are great.
Since you don’t know exactly how this story is going to end at this point, what endgame do you want for Michael?
Michael’s been through so much personally and with this team and with Nikita that it would be nice to know that he could have a positive ending, and that he could have that positive ending with Nikita. To be together [with her].
