On Location with Nikita’s Aaron Stanford

With only four episodes remaining in the final season of Nikita, let’s return to our September visit with the cast on location in Toronto – particularly our chat with Aaron Stanford! We only got a few minutes with Aaron, but here’s what he was able to disclose:

At the end of the third season, we saw Birkoff getting helping from his hacker friends. Will we be seeing any more of them in these final episodes?

You know, it doesn’t really. That was a backstory that I had discussed with Craig [Silverstein] and some of the other writers. Birkoff was definitely aligned with some sort of Anonymous-style hacker group at some point. I think, at the time that they came up with the idea of touching upon that in the finale, nobody knew what was going to happen for Season 4. It might have been 13 episodes, it might have been 22. I think if they had the time they were gonna get into that and … I don’t think they had time to do it.

The team has a mobile base of operations this season. How does that affect or impede what Birkoff is able to do?

It doesn’t impede him at all. He has his full kit up in the plane. He’s able to do anything he wants to and use ShadowNet and all of his Shadow bots and everything else. He’s fully functional. The HQ is the same as it’s always been it’s just mobile now and it’s harder to track.

Presumably, you and the team are going to be preoccupied with Nikita and The Shop. What can you tell us about The Shop and their role?

The Shop are basically the main villain this year. They’re the group that we’re butting heads with. They take the place of The Group and Oversight and Division before them. They’re the last stop, pretty much.

Can you tell us where Birkhoff and Sonya are at? They’ve had a tough road so far. Will their relationship ever get easier?

This year there isn’t a lot of “Sturm und Drang” with them. It’s pretty smooth-sailing. Most of the romantic roads are with Nikita this year.

In a final season, we expect that there will be casualties and anyone is fair game. What’s the end story you’d like to see for Birkoff? Will he ride off into the sunset?

It could be a lot of things. I don’t know what I’d prefer. I always liked the idea of going out in a blaze of glory. I wouldn’t mind being killed off. I don’t know if that’s what they have in store for me or not. I’m just curious to see what’s coming.
