With just three episodes left in its run, this week’s Mary Kills People brings come to Jesus moments to Mary and Des about their line of business. And Jess realizes she’s out of her depth.
[Warning: General spoilers ahead.]
Following an off-screen catchup, Mary brings Ben into the inner circle to figure out what to do about Frances. That he knows before Nicole does not sit well with her. Then it’s Des’s turn to bristle when Ben makes a drastic suggestion about their business model that Mary signs off on.
The ramifications of that involve Mary having an extraordinary, real, and emotional connection with one of her patients, Phil (Rothaford Gray), and Des facing his own demons about whether he’s ready to do his job once the patient relationships become personal.
We’re treated to some of Lucy’s back story, with some insight into how she chose Joy’s, and what she really wants for the rest of her life. Ben makes a suggestion to Detective Hull that unintentionally backfires, leading to a change in plans.
As Naomi’s emotional state continues to deteriorate, Jess has to face that as much as Naomi doesn’t want an adult involved. she’s going to need Naomi’s mom or her own to intervene if Naomi is going to get better.
It’s an emotional episode that marches us toward the finale, with each of the characters facing increasingly bigger challenges and choices. They’ve come a long way in a short two plus seasons. I look forward to seeing where they all land. James Genn directs a script by Karen Moore.
