First Look: The Newsroom

A lot of interesting-sounding new shows will be hitting our TVs this summer, but the one I’m most excited about is HBO’s The Newsroom, which premieres on June 24. It’s created and written by Aaron Sorkin (The West Wing, The Social Network) and revolves around the behind-the-scenes activity at a cable news show. The main character, Will McAvoy (Jeff Daniels), will probably remind you of Keith Olbermann, and the action starts when he resolves to use his show to reform the news business. The cast is strong, the writing is pure Sorkin, and the storytelling format will have you asking some interesting “what if” questions about recent events. I probably won’t be recapping this every week, but I’ll definitely review the pilot and write more about it when it airs!

Check out two promos from HBO:

What do you think? Will you be watching? The Newsroom premieres Sunday, June 24 at 10 p.m. ET on HBO.
