Caffeine – December 16th Edition

It feels somewhat frivolous to be talking about TV news this week, especially as I am currently writing this 15 miles from Newtown, CT. So let me just say that my thoughts are with all those affected by Friday’s tragedy. But here, in the interest of completeness, is this week’s news.

Private Practice will have its series finale on January 22nd.

Renewed: The Soul Man, The Exes

Retired at 35 has been cancelled.

Arrested Development‘s episode order has grown.

NBC has ordered three more episodes of Whitney.

Hell on Wheels has found a new showrunner, so season three is proceeding.

AMC has picked up Low Winter Sun to series. They’re also airing a marathon of The Walking Dead – but in black and white. Interesting.

ABC has given a pilot order to comedy How the F Am I Normal, continuing the new tradition of TV show titles that are supposed to include words that can’t be said on TV.

CBS has ordered a single mom comedy pilot from Chuck Lorre.

HBO has ordered a comedy pilot about a group of gay friends and one about an adult brother and sister in New Jersey.

ABC has shelved Weird Desk.

OWN has ordered a drama and a comedy from Tyler Perry.

In development:
ABC has a comedy based on Justin Bieber’s life, serialized drama The Returned, and a John Leguizamo comedy.
ABC Family has two Romeo and Juliet-related projects.
AMC has a comedy set in colonial Boston. Huh.
Bravo has a media mogul drama.
FOX has an adaptation of BBC series Linda Green.
FX has a Middle East drama from Homeland producers.
HBO has a drama about vets with PTSD.
Lifetime has a modern Pride & Prejudice from Jennifer Love Hewitt. So. Also: a drama called Flesh and Blood.
NBC has a comedy produced by Al Roker, another Dane Cook vehicle, and comedy WTF.
USA has cyber mystery DarkNet.

Robert Patrick will return to True Blood as a series regular.

Beth Grant has been promoted to series regular on The Mindy Project.

Billy Campbell, Brent Sexton, and Michelle Forbes will not be returning for season three of The Killing.
