Up until this point, I was only mildly intrigued by Showtime‘s upcoming series Penny Dreadful – that is, until today’s announcement that Billie Piper has joined the cast!
I will say it loud and proud – Rose Tyler is my favorite of all the Doctor’s companions on Doctor Who, and I can’t wait to see her return in the 50th Anniversary special in November. Secret Diary of a Call Girl was one of my fave series of the past decade. And now she’ll be back on the small screen in 2014!
Piper will be playing Brona Croft, “an Irish immigrant to Victorian London trying to escape a dark and sordid past.”
She is joined by three other new cast members, Helen McCrory (Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Parts 1 & 2), Danny Sapani (The Bill) and Simon Russell Beale (My Week with Marilyn, MI-5). Earlier casting has included Josh Hartnett, Timothy Dalton, Eva Green, Reeve Carney, Rory Kinnear and Harry Treadaway.
Penny Dreadful starts filming this Fall and will debut in 2014.
