Alyson Hannigan has joined the cast of Pure, currently filming Season 2 in Nova Scotia.
Warning: Season 1 spoilers ahead.
Super Channel announced today that Hannigan will be a recurring guest star playing “Esther Dunkel.” She is described as “a lapsed Mennonite who is nobody’s fool and has been helping her lawyer boyfriend funnel a fortune in cash through a local bank. When the cops start closing in on the ever-resourceful Esther, she has no other option but to engineer her own escape.”
Hannigan, best known as Lily on How I Met Your Mother and Willow on Buffy the Vampire Slayer, has most recently been seen on the small screen as the host of Penn & Teller: Fool Us. She joins returning stars Ryan Robbins (Noah Funk) and Alex Paxton-Beesley (Anna Funk). Other new cast members include Chris Heyerdahl (Hell on Wheels), Zoie Palmer (Lost Girl) and Victor Gomez (Orphan Black).
Pure is about Noah and Anna Funk, a Mennonite couple living near the Canada-U.S. border. They discover a criminal element has infiltrated their community, and try to protect their family from it. Instead, Noah and Anna become entangled in the world of drug smuggling. Season 1 ended with the Funks believing they’ve left the crime world behind. In Season 2, the Funks find themselves dragged back into the drug trade.
Michael Amo (The Listener) is the creator and executive producer of Pure. Ken Girotti (Orphan Black) is the director and executive producer.
The six-part second season of Pure comes to Super Channel Fuse in 2019.
Season 1 originally aired on CBC in Canada, and will be airing on WGN America in the U.S. (date TBD). It is also available on Hulu in the U.S.
