All the action of Royal Pains usually takes place during the summer, regardless of when the show actually airs. But this Sunday, USA Network is giving Royal Pains fans a trip to the Hamptons in winter – for Evan and Paige’s Christmas wedding! As you can imagine, preparations don’t exactly go smoothly, especially when the white wedding the couple wants turns out to bring with it plenty of weather-related delays and cancellations. And, of course, this is HankMed, so there are plenty of medical hijinks going on as well.
But it isn’t all wedding and holiday fun and games. This two-hour event gets into some surprisingly deep and painful territory on its way to the altar, and we learn a lot of new, important information about almost all of the main characters. I’ll be honest: I wasn’t really expecting this, and I was a bit taken aback by the darker tone. It’s not necessarily what I’m looking for in a holiday special. But these elements do set up some fascinating events and situations that I assume will be explored next season, so I’m definitely looking forward to that.
