Anne with an E Renewed for a Third Season

Anne with an E has been renewed for a third season by CBC and Netflix. 10 new episodes will film in Prince Edward Island and Ontario this winter, and will launch later in 2019.

The renewal follows July’s second season debut on Netflix, and ahead of its Canadian premiere on CBC in September.

Season 3 of Anne with an E “will continue to tell the coming-of-age story of an outsider who, against all odds and numerous challenges, fights for acceptance, for her place in the world, and for love.” It is inspired by Lucy Maud Montgomery’s beloved Canadian novel, Anne of Green Gables.

Showrunner Moira Walley-Beckett and Executive Producer Miranda de Pencier team up once again to bring Anne to life.

Walley-Beckett shared, “Our beloved Anne will be 16 years old when we return to this season full of romantic complications, bold adventures and dramatic discoveries. I will explore important, contemporary themes that I hope will continue to resonate with, and inspire and uplift, our audience.”

“We’re super thrilled that this series has resonated in 190 countries,” de Pencier added. “I’m also very proud that we make our show in Canada with a wonderfully talented group of artists — led by the brilliant Moira Walley-Beckett. The character of Anne gives people permission to be themselves because she is so resoundingly herself. There are so many walls being built and so much fear growing in the world right now and Anne offers us a reminder that it’s okay to stay positive, be kind, and to dream, no matter how tough life gets – which is inspiration we all need.”

The first season of Anne with an E received numerous accolades. Nominated in 13 categories at the 2018 Canadian Screen Awards, it won the Best Drama Series trophy. Walley-Beckett won a Writer’s Guild of Canada award, and the Showrunner of the Year at the 2018 Rockie Awards. The series also received Playback Magazine’s “Show of the Year” honour in 2017.

Season 2 Anne with an E premieres on CBC September 23 at 7pm. It’s available now on Netflix in the US and internationally.
