Travelers Preview: Jacob

In the next new Travelers, Enrico Colantoni is back as the mystery traveler who, although hindered by very real, very human phobias, is surprisingly keyed in.

[Warning: General spoilers ahead.]

His activities from the season premiere dovetail into the team’s latest case about a missing Traveler, sparking a new round of concern, anguish, and anger about their increasingly complex situation in the 21st.

On the personal front, Philip isn’t as withdrawal-free as he thought, Marcy tries to fill in the blanks with a struggling David, Trevor recovers from the shooting, and Carly and Grant re-evaluate their marriages.

It’s a really good episode that illustrates the now-moving game board and evolving rules with which the team is faced as they balance their protocols with their own survival as well as that of those closest to them. Series story editors Ashley Park (Killjoys S3 and Travelers S1) & Pat Smith (Between and Travelers S1) wrote the script, directed by Andy Mikita (Killjoys, Motive, and Travelers S1).

The cast is terrific across the board, and I’m thoroughly enjoying watching Eric McCormack switch gears in two very different roles and worlds between this and Will & Grace every week. As a fangirl back to Lonesome Dove: The Outlaw Years (which you really must find on DVD) over two decades ago, I love these tandem successes for him.

Travelers airs Mondays at 9pm ET/PT on Showcase. You can catch up on Season 1 now on Netflix and the first two episodes of this season on Showcase’s website. Here’s a sneak peek of “Jacob.”
