After last week’s setup for how Roper’s business functions in the boardroom, this week, we get an episode of The Night Manager that follows up the tell with the show in a fairly nailbiter cat-and-mouse hour.
It’s enough to turn Jonathan’s stomach, but first, he has to sell his role while still technically fired from his position as an informant. Back home, Angela struggles with managing her operation when her only asset may have gone rogue, and she has to weigh whether she can trust him or his intel.
That’s complicated exponentially when Jonathan disappears into the mountains to Roper’s black ops-type compound. We, and Jonathan, finally see that Roper isn’t all suave and finesse, which is increasingly terrifying when Jed gets pulled into the mix.
Only two episodes left. Tom Hiddleston was on Graham Norton a few weeks ago (and last week in the US on BBC America) and said while this incarnation, based on the novel, concludes, he was a bit coy about whether there’s another volume to Jonathan’s story. I hope to hell there is. Until then, enjoy the masterful ride.
