In past episodes of this season’s Lost, each seems to be specific to the stories of one character or another. But this week focuses around everyone who is left.

A few peeks at some characters in the Reset that we haven’t seen yet, and another hint that we might see who Jack’s kid’s mom is. I still have no clue who it could be. Guessing it won’t be anyone we know leading this long tease out to no real ending.

Desmond is still on his crusade to open the eyes of the people who were supposed to be on the Island. And he turns himself in to find himself in the same holding cell as Sayid and Kate, and with Hugo’s help he buys them out of jail. Desmond and Kate head off to “a concert” which I have to assume is the benefit where Jack’s son is playing. All the other Island people in the reset seem to be gravitating toward that event.

Back on the Island, Jacob calls the final candidates (Jack, Sawyer, Kate and Hugo) to reveal why they were all brought to the island. He tells them why ALL OF THIS has happened. Someone has to protect the Island from the Man-in-Black/Smokey. He tells them about the light and Jack volunteers to protect the Island. Jacob baptizes Jack and tells him about the light, the heart of the Island.

Meanwhile Flocke and Linus head off on one final mission to get FLocke off the Island and kill anyone who stands in his way. Finally it is revealed that FLocke intends to not only leave, but to destroy the Island completely.

Next week is it. The End. It all comes down to this.

Until next week … Get Lost.

This is the Lost Lost report!

Skipping a week, I am this week delivering both Episode 13: The Candidate and Episode 14: Across the Sea.

So lets start with The Candidate

This episode deals mostly with Jack and Locke, and Jack and FLocke.

The list of candidates that Flocke gathered that were captured by Widmore’s people were being corralled into the bear cages at the “zoo” and Jack frees them to join FLocke in his attempt to leave the island.

Finding out the plane was laced with C4 explosives they redirect their plan to steal the submarine, but Sawyer and Jack have a different plan.

I lost track how many times Sawyer double crossed Widmore and FLocke, so we will just say as always Sawyer was on Sawyer’s side.

They escape in the sub without Flocke and Claire who gets left out in the scuffle. But it was then that FLocke’s double cross was revealed and the C4 is on the sub.

In the Sideways Reset Jack is trying to figure out why Locke wont undergo the surgery that could give him his legs back, and in digging he finds out that Locke’s father was left in a brain damaged state. Locke feels guilty about what happened and his wheelchair is his punishment.

And this is when the slow burn of the episode reaches its dramatic flash of white hot pain. Sawyer, Kate, Jack, Sayid, Hurley, Sun and Jin are on the sub. Three of them don’t make it out. Very sad ending.

Then The Last Recruit.

This week was the biggest flashback of all starting off with a shipwrecked pregnant mother who washes up on shore and is taken in by a mysterious lady who helps her deliver her twins. One she names Jacob, the other … she doesn’t name and is never given one throughout the episode. Then the mysterious woman murders the mother.

This entire episode is about Jacob and the Man in Black.

She adopts the twins, and teaches them about the “heart of the island”, a glowing power source that others would covet and they are sworn to protect, just as she has protected it. Each lead different lives until finally a conflict leads them to their destiny. Jacob takes his brother to the light and “feeds” him to it which grants him his power to turn into the smoke monster, and they are forever incapable of causing the other’s death.

The mother leaves them a gift of the two stones, one black, one white, and we flash forward to what might be the very first episode when Jack finds the skeletal remains of the Man in Black and his adopted mother with the stones in the cave they live in early in the series.

The Smoke Monster can take the form of anyone who is dead, including himself. And is now FLocke, still trying to escape the island.

Only one more episode left before the aptly named finale “The End” and we still don’t know what’s going on.

Until next week … Get Lost.

This is the Lost Lost report!

Skipping a week, I am this week delivering both Episode 11: Everybody Loves Hugo and Episode 12: The Last Recruit.

So lets start with Everybody Loves Hugo.

Everyone does. Hugo is my favourite and I know I am not alone. I was just pissed when Hugo finally got the girl Libby only to have her die.

This episode sees Hugo in the Sideways Reset happier than ever, receiving yet another award for his success and humanitarian activities. But then his mom rains on the parade suggesting that he can’t be happy without a woman. This parallel would ring in your ears the whole episode.

While on the blind date his mom set up, Hugo crosses paths with Libby who claims to have “known she loves him from another life that didn’t happen.” Hugo wants to believe her, but still doesn’t. The attraction is there.

Desmond is still on his crusade to open the eyes of the chronologically misplaced Islanders, and encourages Hugo to go chase after Libby even though she is in a mental hospital.

Hugo does, and we finally get to see the big guy get the picnic date with Libby that he never got to have on the Island. Awww … all sorts of warm fuzzies. Then they kiss and he gets the flash showing him his other life.

Desmond moves on to address Locke, but since Locke is dead on the Island, he runs him down with his car. Didn’t see that coming.

Then The Last Recruit.

This episode was a lot of filler for me.

No real focus on any one character really, but it is bridging us into the homestretch to the final conflict. While last week took place almost entirely in the Sideways Reset, this one is mostly on the Island.

FLocke’s hand is forced and the war he threatened that Widmore started is ahead of schedule, so he sets out to attack with his followers.

Sawyer executes his plan to double cross FLocke, only to get double crossed himself, but not before we get a really heartfelt reunion of Sun and Jin – which somehow gives her back the ability to speak in English. These two are my favourite couple. So happy to see them back together.

Until next week … Get Lost.

Last night’s Lost is all about Desmond. Well a little about Widmore, but that goes along with why it is all about Desmond.

Strangely enough it is nearly half of the way through the episode before he calls anyone Brother.

We learn that in the Sideways Reset, Desmond was never on the Island, and yet somehow finds himself on the same Oceanic 815 flight that has now safely landed in LA. But why is he in LA? Well he is a respected business man who works for … Charles Widmore? And they are bonded colleagues who HUG!

What’s more is that Widmore’s son is a progressive musician who is mixing classical music with modern rock. So obviously they need Driveshaft’s bass player, Charlie. Desmond has to babysit Charlie (who has found himself in jail and bailed out by Widmore) and Charlie shares his near death experience with Des, which by the sounds of it, he saw his experience on the Island where he fell in love with Claire.

Charlie, now addicted to that moment in near death plays a game of Flatliners and forces Desmond’s car off the road. There is a beautiful parallel of Charlie in the sunken vehicle with his hand against the window marking his death on the Island, which Desmond gets a flash glimpse of “NOT PENNYS BOAT” written on Charlie’s hand.

Yep … Mind Blown.

Desmond meets Eloise Widmore – who we know as Eloise Hawking, the mastermind behind some movement that knows a little too much about the Island (the white haired woman in that room with the giant pendulum, where she encourages the Oceanic Six to return to the Island)

But all that goes on in this episode … and this whole season is summed up in one park bench chat with Daniel Widmore (who of course we know as Daniel Faraday), who has a dream glimpse of his life not as a musician, but a quantum mechanics and physics genius. He theorizes that a large burst of energy has set time askew, and says:

What if this … all this. What if this wasn’t supposed to be our life? We had some other life, and for some reason we changed things. I don’t want to set off a nuclear bomb. I think I already did!”

So he knows, and now we know. The Sideways Reset is “not right” and they are feeling the effects of the parallels.

I also see other parallels. While people were thinking everyone on the Island was dead, the Island was purgatory, and Jacob was God, Smokey was the Devil, I have a different thought.

Jacob is not God, but a force of nature we will call Order. Order only exists to make sense of things, and Order has no purpose without Chaos. Chaos is the Man in Black. Eloise Hawking, might be God as she seems to be fully aware of everything that has happened and will happen. Even in the Sideways Reset, Eloise speaks with an awareness that implies she knows everything.

And now it seems that Desmond is the new Messiah, who has a new crusade. To find the members of Oceanic 815, and show them the world they are missing.

The countdown begins. Only five episodes left.

Until next week … Get Lost.

Lost was all about Sun and Jin.

In the Sideways Reset, we get to see what would have happened to Sun’s plan to run away from her husband as soon as they get to the US – except Sun and Jin aren’t married in this world. Sun IS secretly sleeping with Jin, though! After a seductive night of passion she decides to let him in on her plan and asks him to run with her, but before they can decide, the recipient of the Package that Jin was sent to deliver comes looking for it.

After customs confiscated the money we find out that it was intended to be the fee for the package to kill Jin for boinking the boss’s daughter.

Aside from that revelation, this week wasn’t full of many surprises or turn arounds. A little disappointing considering the trend of supplying answers.

Seemed a little filler to me in a season anticipated to be all full of questions and answers.

In the end FLocke and Widmore face off, and FLocke declares war. We knew that was coming too.

I hope this is just a blip on the map and that we get more excitement in the episodes to come. With very few episodes left before the epic two 2Hour finale episodes, things have to gear up fast!

Until next week … Get Lost.

This week’s Lost was entirely about Richard.

Oh sure, some other people showed up, but the biggest mystery in all of Lost has always been about this man who doesn’t age, who you KNOW has all the answers. There was no peek into the Sideways Reset world this time – Richard isn’t there.

So now this week we get to see just how Richard ended up on the Island, and why he doesn’t age.

And it was the first time that the show was completely about ANSWERS instead of questions.

So that big ship, the Black Rock? yeah, that was Richard’s Oceanic 815. How he ends up on that ship is a sad story, and great insight into this struggle of a man. But every man has his breaking point, and as all is revealed about Richard’s purpose – his job – we see even he loses faith.

The Secret of the Island is revealed. Jacob is God, Flocke/Smokey/Man in Black is the devil and the Island is hell. Everyone there is dead.

Why is it so coveted? Because some have found a way OUT of Hell (which explains why it was so important that those who left would have to come back – and why babies can’t be born on the Island) and others have found a way to GET to Hell.

This Dharma initiative tripped over something big when they found this island. Maybe Widmore wants to harness its power to become a god?

Or maybe Richard simply applied his own religious observations on to everything that is happening on the Island and he is wrong?

Oh, there’s that comfortable place of crazy doubt I am used to!

Until next week… Get Lost.

Hey look, Lost has continued to leave us without answers! Good thing we actually want that … or we wouldn’t still be watching it after 4 seasons of the same. Answers and more questions. Its the cycle of abuse we subject ourselves too.

Last week, I got distracted by something shiny and failed to submit my article about the episode so I am just going to plow through last week and this week together.

Episode 6

Seeing Sayid’s family side still tainted by his dark career. As suspected his newfound sense of family and justice return him to his seedy past.

On the Island, we find out why Jack and Hurley were sent to the looking glass lighthouse. To keep them out of harms way when Flocke was visiting the temple. The parallel to Sayid’s moral dilemma in the Sideways Reset is just as sweet on the Island. His fate is uncertain, but I suspect we will see him again.

Episode 7

Ben Linus … wait. Dr Linus gets the focus of this episode, and we see his father weak and sick mention the Dharma Initiative. So it was revealed that they DID go to the Island, and it still existed in the Sideways Reset world.

Ben’s adoptive daughter Alex is revealed to be one of his students and the girl is as staggeringly beautiful as she was on the Island. And Linus still has an instinct to be a father figure as her teacher who has an interest in her well being and future. Linus also illustrates his manipulative instincts to gain position.

The Parallels are just insanely delicious. Its my favourite part of this season so far. Seeing the two completely different timelines deliver all the Losty goodness we expect, and giving one more layer of enjoyment illustrating how their lives are different and still just the same. On or off the Island.

The episode ends with them all on the beach, THE beach. But someone is watching.

Mr Widmore. Dun dunnn dunnnnnn!

Until next week… Get Lost.

So continuing the trend of no answers, but answering everything this season is moving forward with a gentle closure for the entire series.

Two episodes ago, we were re-introduced to Crazy Claire in the closing moments of the ep just to follow it up next week saying, ‘Remember that big reveal? Yeah, we are not touching on that just yet.”

Last week was all Locke/Flocke.

This week its mostly Jack. A little Hurley, but mostly Jack.

Jack has a kid. Maybe I missed that, maybe it was sprung on us, but yeah. Teenager. Sure that wasn’t mentioned before (or it got missed in the mess of useless facts in my head), and the Sideways Reset shows him attempting to salvage his family relationships – especially his son – and settling his father’s affairs. We also hear mention of “his mother” who could be Jack’s first wife … but we don’t know. Seems they left that out for a reason, but there is no reveal yet.

Which leads them to finding his will, in which he mentions Jack’s sister Claire. That is what I like about the Sideways Reset world, is that we see how their lives intermingle even without the Island. In the early seasons of the show we catch common threads like Locke working for Hurley’s box company, Claire and Jack and a bevvy of other crossover madness, but even the new people are getting their own little brush with the cast after the fact.

Messing with the reset we get the Samurai crossing paths with Jack.

But then we get back on to Claire. Remember her? Yeah, she’s all loony and still pining over her lost baby Aaron. Whoever took him has to die, and while she is soft on Jin she’s less than cordial with the Temple guy she kidnaps. Jin tells Claire that Aaron left the Island with Kate, but then without reason, he backtracks saying it was a lie directing her rage at the Temple before meeting Claire’s friend … Flocke.

Bwuh? This week didn’t blow my mind, but I cant expect them to ALWAYS surprise me – just most of the time.

Until next week… Get Lost.
