Happy Sunday! It was something of a slow news week in TV land, but we do have some exciting new shows and casting to tell you about …

Wondering when your favorite shows are having their finales? E! Online has a handy Season Finale Calendar. And they’ll fill you in on when spring and summer shows are premiering here.

USA Network announced some of their summer scheduling on Twitter this week, as tends to happen these days. Burn Notice, paired with new show Suits (formerly A Legal Mind), will return on June 23, and Royal Pains, paired with new show Necessary Roughness, on June 29. Bad news for Pysch fans: no new episodes until fall, because their summer schedule got too packed.

A pirate drama set in 17th century Jamaica? Yes, PLEASE. In other “new shows that sound awesome” news, did you know that Miranda Lambert’s parents were PIs who let their kids help? And ABC Family is developing it into a series? This is like real-life Veronica Mars with country music! And Amber Tamblyn is developing a show about a young teacher. Adult Swim has ordered a comedy pilot about a cheap movie production company, or something. (Yes, I basically listed those new shows by decreasing level of awesomeness.)

Showtime has ordered House of Lies and Homeland to series. This means, among other things, that Kristen Bell (a.k.a. Veronica Mars) will FINALLY be back on our TVs, and that Andie Starr is probably not long for Mystic Falls.

If nothing else, this is evidence that not the entire cast of Battlestar Galactica will be on Moore’s new show: Mary McDonnell will be a regular on The Closer next season.

Pretty Little Liars has added Annabeth Gish as a therapist, because God knows those girls need one. I guess she was in Mystic Pizza but what I remember her from is The West Wing. Raising Hope has upped Gregg Binkley to regular status.

Despite the misleading headlines, Robert Sean Leonard is probably not leaving House. Similarly, despite whatever Alec Baldwin’s been saying, 30 Rock is probably not ending.

News from the 90s: The Sundance Channel is going to rerun My So-Called Life.

From the people who brought you Syfy: Sleuth will now be called Cloo. Heavy sigh.

If you want to see the rest of Chase, it will be airing on Saturday nights. Of course it will.

Bravo is getting back into scripted TV with Face Down, about a makeup artist to the stars.

Guest stars:

Danny Glover (!) to Leverage.

Ethan Peck to Gossip Girl.

Edie McClurg to Rules of Engagement.

Brad Dourif to Fringe.

Recurring: James Ransone and Mike Zegen on How to Make It in America.

Pilot Updates:

Dallas adds Brenda Strong. “You’re wearing my shirt, Gordon.” Ahem.

Georgetown gets a showrunner – Jennifer Johnson of Chase. Um, comforting?

Lovelives has replaced Amanda Loncar with Collette Wolfe.

Missing will co-star Sean Bean.

Person of Interest gets a showrunner – Greg Plageman of Cold Case.

Revenge will guest star Amber Valletta.

The River adds Jeff Galfer.

Spring/Fall adds Hope Davis.

Vince Uncensored adds Maz Jobrani and Georgia Engel.

Work It adds Beth Lacke.

One of the untitled comedies adds Michael Landes.

Another untitled comedy adds Mimi Kennedy.

The untitled Christina Applegate show adds James Pumphrey.

The untitled Tim Allen show adds Kaitlyn Dever (love her), Molly Ephraim, and Alexandra Krosney.

Paulson/Pasdar adds Jennifer Coolidge.

Since its debut earlier this spring, Starz comedy series Party Down has won me over. I’d even go as far as saying this is, hands down, one of my favourite comedies EVER!

For those who have never seen or heard of Party Down (something that you must remedy immediately), it’s about a group of creative types – actors, screenwriters, comedians – that pay the bills by working for Los Angeles catering company Party Down, under the leadership of recovering addict/budding entrepreneur Ron Donald (portrayed by Ken Marino, best known to Veronica Mars fans as PI Vinnie Van Lowe).

With a talented ensemble cast that includes Lizzy Caplan, Martin Starr, Jane Lynch, Ryan Hansen and Adam Scott, this show easily rivals greats like 30 Rock, right down to the revolving door of brilliant guest stars, which have included JK Simmons, Steven Weber, Molly Parker and even Marilu Henner!

Tonight is the season finale, and Kristen Bell – yes, Veronica Mars herself – guest stars! Here’s a clip:

The Season Finale airs tonight at 10:30 pm on Starz.

Have you discovered Party Down yet?

I miss Veronica Mars. It was a brilliant, well-written, well-acted series for the first two seasons. The third season was weak, but there were a few good episodes. It never got a chance to redeem itself. There has been talk of a big screen outing for Neptune’s favourite sleuth and friends, and it looks like it’s official!

E! Online’s Kristin Dos Santos reported earlier today that VM mastermind Rob Thomas is about to start writing the screenplay, taking advantage of the extra time he now has with the order for Cupid being reduced to 8 episodes.

The question that’s on everyone’s minds – where will the story pick up? Here’s what Thomas had to say:

“I think it would open just days before Hearst College graduation, so Veronica would be at the end of her college career.”

Thomas is still working out the story, and hasn’t confirmed the return of anyone other than Kristen Bell, although he’s spoken with Enrico Colantoni (papa Keith Mars, currently on the CTV/CBS co-pro Flashpoint) and the very handsome Jason Dohring (Logan Echolls). As long as those three are on board, I’m in! Oh, and I think we definitely need Veronica’s canine cohort Backup.

Will you be hitting the theatre for a Veronica Mars movie? And which cast members are a must for you to check it out?
