Sweet Streams: iZombie

Today’s Sweet Streams selection is iZombie, which is currently streaming on Netflix. The first two seasons are available on Netflix U.S. and the third season (which returned tonight on the CW) is streaming weekly in select countries, including Canada, The U.K. and Australia.

iZombie is the brain-child — bad pun definitely intended — of Veronica Mars creator Rob Thomas and frequent collaborator Diane Ruggiero-Wright. It’s loosely based on the DC/Vertigo comic book series of the same name.

Here’s the trailer that set up the first season:

The plucky heroine in this series is Liv Moore, an A-type medical resident who got more than she bargained for when she tried to let loose at a boat party and ended up dead! … well UN-dead. Now she works at a morgue and receives flashback visions (and meddlesome personality quirks) from every brain she chows down on. Masquerading as a psychic, she teams up with a detective to solve murders, while desperately trying to hide her Zombie double life from her ex-fiancé and her best friend.

iZombie is delightfully quirky series; playful and campy, with wonderfully understated emotional undertones. With more high-profile Zombie series getting lots of play, this is one undead underdog that deserves to be on your radar. The series stars Rose McIver as Liv Moore, Malcolm Goodwin as Detective Clive Babineaux, Rahul Kohli as Dr. Ravi Chakrabarti, Robert Buckley as Major Lilywhite, and Aly Michalka as Peyton Charles

You might like this if you are desperately missing Veronica Mars, are a Bones fan who sometimes wishes there were less bones and a little more brains, or have a soft spot for campy ‘guts n’ gore’ sagas like Supernatural.
