Motive Preview: “Chronology of Pain”

[Warning: General spoilers ahead.]

After another mini-hiatus, Motive returns Tuesday night with the penultimate episode of its run. I’m really so sorry to see this show go away, but it’s kicked its final season completely in the ass, and “Chronology of Pain” is no exception.

It’s a winding web of an episode as Angie investigates the murder of someone she thought she knew really well, only to find out she knew a teeny, tiny piece and that her friend and mentor was hiding an altogether darker life that damaged a significant number of young people, some of them irreparably.

Guest stars are another who’s who batch, including the always welcome Cameron Bright plus Tim Matheson, Joanna CassidyEmily Tennant, and A.J. Buckley.

We also catch up with a retired Vega and a re-assigned Kennecki, while Lucas gets a left-field proposal that actually makes sense for him.

As Dennis Heaton told me last month, Motive is buttoning up the lives of its regulars as it winds down, and as bittersweet as it is going to be to watch them go, I do love that they’ve been lovingly shepherded to the next stages of their career and personal lives. Now we just need a movie or two a year to periodically check in on them. That’s not too much to ask, right?

That said, I reserve the right to be a sniffly mess next week.

Motive airs Tuesdays at 10/9c on CTV in Canada for two more weeks and Sundays at 11/10c on USA in the U.S. for another five weeks. Here is a sneak peek of “Chronology of Pain.”
