Marvel’s AKA Jessica Jones Casts Rachael Taylor as Hellcat

AKA Jessica Jones Rachel Taylor as Trish Walker or HellCatt

Shortly after Marvel announced A.K.A. Jessica Jones’ regular baddie in David Tennant, THR is reporting that Rachael Taylor (Grey’s Anatomy, Crisis) has been added to the cast as Trish Walker, Jessica’s best friend. (Yay lady friendship!) Trish, who also goes by “Patsy”, shares an alias with Marvel comic book superhero Hellcat, which is very cool to say the least.

Taylor will play Trish Walker, Jessica’s best friend, who works as a syndicated radio-talk-show host and is a former model and child TV star known to her adoring fans as “Patsy” Walker. As Jessica’s closest friend, Trish helps her embark on the most dangerous case of Jessica’s career.

The character of Patricia Walker goes back to 1944, when she first appeared in Miss America Magazine Vol. 1 #2. In the comics, Walker donned the superhero identity of Hellcat in 1976.

The Mary Sue lays out a more substantial, but still quick primer on Patsy Walker a.k.a. Hellcat so we can all be more informed as we continue to speculate:

Patsy Walker made her first appearance as a character in the original Miss America comic in the ’40s, after which she was spun off into several teen-humor/romance titles like Patsy and HedyPatsy and her Pals, and Patsy Walker. Then in the ’70s Marvel went, “Lol screw that, make her a superhero,” and gave her a new backstory where she was actually the daughter of the comic book writer who’d written all those lovable Patsy comics of old. Then she joined the Avengers and later the Defenders, using martial-arts training that was taught to her by Moondragon. Most recently she was a regularly recurring character in Charles Soule’s She-Hulk short-lived title, too. Also, her soul might have been promised to Satan one time. Comics are weird, friends.

Are we looking at the makings of a lady-centric super team? Will we see She-Hulk added to the mix? Share your A.K.A. Jessica Jones wishes and predictions in the comments!

Quick refresher: Also cast so far, Krysten Ritter as Jessica Jones and Mike Colter as Luke Cage.
