There’s been something I’ve been thinking about for quite some time now, and thanks to my girl Lee’s latest blog post on From My Side of the Moon, the fire’s been rekindled to get something going in Toronto!

The US, UK and Australia get Vampire Diaries fan events, but Canada hasn’t been invited to the party yet, although we’ve given TVD some of our finest talent, particularly Toronto girl Nina Dobrev. So here’s my idea. Let’s get a Twitter campaign going to show support and interest for a Vampire Diaries fan event in Toronto, and see who we can get as guest(s) of honor. I’m researching who we need to talk to in order to make this happen, and I’ll keep you all updated.

In the meantime, let’s get interest going by using the hashtag #TOneedsTVD when talking about it on Twitter. The more interest there is, the better the chances that there will be a TVD event on Canadian soil!

So who’s with us?

Welcome to The Televixen’s 2009 Emmy Live Blog. I’m super stoked for this year’s shindig because Mr Awesome himself Neil Patrick Harris is host! So grab your drink of choice, some tasty snacks, and settle in with me for a virtual Emmy bash!

So far, NPH is quite the host, complete with an entertaining musical number that is not too long, and not too short.

And the first award of the evening goes to Kristen Chenoweth as Supporting Actress in a Comedy for Pushing Daisies. I have to admit I am kind of surprised by this. She had some pretty stiff competition from the Fey/Poehler/Wiig powerhouse, not to mention Elizabeth Perkins’ brilliance on Weeds. I’m sure fans of the series that, well, is literally pushing daisies are happy this evening.

Very thrilled to see the cast of How I Met Your Mother presenting the Writing for a Comedy Series a.k.a. The 30 Rock Award. I would have loved to see Flight of the Conchords take this one, but I do enjoy 30 Rock, and Matt Hubbard’s ep Reunion was one of the best last season.

Well, you don’t want to hear the expletives that emitted from my mouth at the Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series statue going to Jon Cryer for Two and a Half Men. I’m going to opt not to comment on this, because I truly have nothing to say. No wait, I do have something to say. NPH and Kevin Dillon were RIPPED OFF! Any of the other nominees in this category were far more worthy. Emmys, way to celebrate mediocrity with your choice in this category.

The charming and funny Justin Timberlake presented the statue for Outstanding Actress in a Comedy Series to Toni Collette for The United States of Tara. Okay Emmy, we may be friends again, but only on a trial basis. You’ve got the rest of the night to try and redeem yourself again, but you’re off to a good start by giving this statue to someone great!

The Best Direction of a Comedy award is going home with Jeffrey Blitz for The Office. Emmy, I approve of this choice.

Okay, I would have loved to see Jim Parsons or Jemaine Clement win the Outstanding Actor in a Comedy trophy, but by Alec Baldwin-ning, I don’t have to be subjected to Charlie Sheen winning.

Now is the time of the show where I eat dinner and do my laundry, i.e. the Reality Categories. Going to visit everyone else’s live blogs and see what they’re chatting about.

On to the Miniseries or Movie Supporting Actor/Actress Awards. Wow, Shohreh Aghdashloo won for House of Saddam. I’ve loved her in everything I’ve seen her in, so this is a well-deserved award in my opinion. Ken Howard wins for Grey Gardens, which I have yet to see. Was he any good in it?

Brendan Gleason wins the award for Lead Actor in a Mini Series or Movie for Into the Storm. Another selection I haven’t seen yet. Readers, if you have any thoughts on this win, feel free to comment below.

I think I need to see Little Dorrit. Just spied Matthew McFadyen in the clip they showed! And with the collection of awards it’s accumulating, I think I’ll be tracking it down soon.

I LOVE DOCTOR HORRIBLE!!! And I love Captain Hammer. Emmy may have gotten it all wrong with Cryer earlier on, but kudos for including some Dr Horrible in the live broadcast!

Jessica Lange has won for Grey Gardens, another movie that falls into the I Haven’t Seen it Yet category. Grey Gardens also wins for Outstanding Made for TV Movie.

*Side note for the Kiefer fans … how dashing does he look with those specs? He’s aging quite nicely.

Motherlover was ripped off! Don’t get me wrong, Hugh Jackman was entertaining at the Oscars, but really, who’s going to be singing any of that a year from now? Motherlover on the other hand is timeless.

Do I spy Cylon centurions in the Drama montage? The cheers for Starbuck and Anders from the crowd really prove BSG should have been shown some real Emmy love. I also noted the cheers for True Blood and Lost.

Oh happy night! Michael Emerson just won for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama for Lost. Anyone who has seen the show knows that this is a much deserved honor.

24′s Cherry Jones wins the Supporting Actress in a Drama award. She was fantastic as President Allison Taylor, and I predicted an Emmy nom early in the last season.

Ummm … I can barely contain my excitement. Two of the hottest men to play vampires EVER on stage together – David Boreanaz and Stephen Moyer. Thanks Emmy for having them intro guest actor winners Michael J. Fox and Ellen Burstyn.

Writing is not fun according to Mad Men scribe Matthew Weiner, who just won along with Kater Gordon for Outstanding Writing in a Drama. Is this the only statue Mad Men will take home tonight?

I really need to check out Damages at some point. I keep hearing how great it is. And Glenn Close has won Outstanding Actress in a Drama once again. I think it would have been sweet for Elisabeth Moss to win. She was brilliant in S2 of Mad Men, and one of the finest young actresses this decade.

Outstanding Lead Actor goes to Bryan Cranston for Breaking Bad, another repeat. How do you beat out Jon Hamm and Michael C. Hall? Breaking Bad’s also on my list of shows to watch eventually, but for now, I’ll just sulk that one of my faves didn’t win. And did Jennifer Carpenter look stunning or what?

Bob Newhart presents the Outstanding Comedy Series Emmy to 30 Rock, with Tina Fey accepting the award. Nice dig at Leno, Lemon, thanking NBC for keeping 30 Rock on the air although it’s much more expensive than a talk show!

The Televixen interrupts this regularly scheduled awards show to announce that TRUE BLOOD has won the Breakthrough Performance award, as voted by the fans! This is my first TRUE BLOOD-less Sunday night, so I’m very glad to see them shown some love!

To top off the night, Mad Men wins Outstanding Drama Series, a well-earned honour. Between that, and NPH being a fabulous host, Emmy, I think we can still be friends.

If you want to check out the full list of winners, check out the Emmys website.

What were your thoughts on tonight’s Emmy winners? Who do you think was the most deserving of those who won? And what would vote as the biggest snub?

At Polaris 22 in July, I got the chance to see Torchwood’s Gareth David-Lloyd, Moonlight/Veronica Mars star Jason Dohring, and Dead Like Me’s Ellen Muth. In August, it was FanExpo 2008, where I attended a fantastic BSG panel with Edward James Olmos and Aaron Douglas, and discovered the world of Smallville after checking out a session with Michael Rosenbaum and Laura Vandervoort.

There are so many cons and TV festivals being announced; most recently, PaleyFest 09, which I want to check out some day. I’m hoping to return to both Polaris and Fan Expo this year, but my ultimate goal – San Diego Comicon!

So, any other TV lovers out there planning to hit the con circuit in 2009? And which ones would you recommend?

John Wyndham’s classic sci-fi novel Day of the Triffids will be hitting the tube this year as a BBC miniseries.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the astounding cast includes Dougray Scott, Vanessa Redgrave, Joely Richardson, Brian Cox, Eddie Izzard and Jason Priestley.

If you’re not familiar with the story, here’s a taste of what’s in store:

(Dougray) Scott will play Bill Maysen, a doctor who has to lead a band of humans in an epic battle with the Triffids, a flesh-eating vegetable originally used as an energy source. When spectators gather worldwide for a much-anticipated solar storm, billions are left blinded and the few sighted survivors watch as society collapses into chaos.

Now, I remember reading this book in high school, along with Wyndham’s The Chrysalids, and didn’t really enjoy either at the time, but re-read the latter in my early 20s and loved it. So I think it’s time to revisit Triffids before this airs.

I haven’t seen a really good miniseries in a while, and with this cast, I think this could be one to watch. As a Nip/Tuck fan, I’m happy that mother/daughter Redgrave and Richardson will be together on screen again. And I’ve really missed Eddie Izzard on TV since The Riches was canceled.

An air date has not been announced yet, but I’ll be sure to keep you posted.

What better way to celebrate this historic occasion than a concert, with musical superstars like Bruce Springsteen, Jon Bon Jovi and U2, with the Lincoln Memorial as a backdrop?

I’m not an American, but I’m very happy right now for my neighbours to the south. Watching this concert, seeing the smiles on the faces of the crowd, and feeling the ever growing sense of hope – what an exciting time to be alive!

Most moving performances? I thought Mary J. Blige’s rendition of “Lean on Me” was stellar. And of course, my favourite band on the planet, U2, performing “Pride (In the Name of Love” and “City of Blinding Lights”, choked me up a bit. Here’s their entire performance:

What was your favourite moment in today’s Inaugural Celebration?
