Cardinal Preview: Kevin

On the next new Cardinal, we get some insight into how Northwind runs his operation as Red works to piece together her fractured memories.

[Warning: General spoilers ahead.]

The discovery beside the waterfall opens up another path in Cardinal and Delorme’s investigation and brings them right to the door of drug runner Lasalle (Lost Girl‘s Kris Holden-Ried) and detective Alan Clegg (Orphan Black‘s Kevin Hanchard), who’s quietly spent years building a case against him.

The latter introduction dovetails back to Delorme in a way that personally rattles her. And it doesn’t help that she’s also a bit on edge evaluating her professional options. She’s not the only one considering her career, as we see Catherine dip a toe back into her photography while Cardinal steps back and hopes she’s ready.

Northwind is revealed to be increasingly unsettling as a big bad, and the titular namesake, Kevin (Reign‘s Jonathan Keltz), quickly learns he may be in way over his head as part of his crew.

It’s another tightly constructed episode that takes its time to introduce the new players, while also exploring the new dynamic between Cardinal and Delorme as they work with each other and try to figure out the best way to break through Red’s memory block. There’s also a neat friendship there now between Delorme and Commanda, which has softened a bit since Season 1.

Cardinal airs Thursdays at 9/8c on CTV. Here are a few sneak peeks of “Kevin.” ICYMI, click here for my interview with Karine Vanasse.
