San Diego Comic-Con is long gone, but the goodies are still coming. Back in July, I had a chance to take part in the Supernatural press room at the bayside convention. I’ve got video interviews with the cast and producers for you guys, and first up here’s the scoop from series star Jensen Ackles. No, I didn’t manage to ask Mr. Ackles a question, but I did manage to rein in my giggles (somewhat) and not spontaneously combust, so I feel like I deserve a special award. I mean, whatever, sitting across from Jensen Ackles … no big deal. Business as usual. Carry on.
Ackles talked a bit about directing the third episode of the upcoming season, and the challenges involved. In fact, he had filmed until 4:30 a.m. the morning before flying to San Diego. Last year when Ackles directed, Dean was in the episode less, but this time he is filming scenes on all 8 days. Now that’s dedication!
Another journalist asked about how Ackles felt about the fandom’s negative reaction to “Time for a Wedding.” That was somewhat news to me, and Ackles was also surprised. He doesn’t really follow the fan reactions as closely as the writers do. He concluded: “My thought on the show is that it didn’t seem that far our of the wheelhouse of what we do. Was it dealing with a subject that might be uh … sensitive? Yeah. But we deal with that stuff all the time. We deal with religious subjects that could be sensitive to people. We deal with, you know, like ‘The French Mistake’ and breaking that fourth wall, taking that fiction out of the story. I trust the writers know what they’re doing. I trust the producers know how to run a show. And I show up and do my job.”
What can fans expect for Dean in Season 8? Ackles couldn’t really say much as he’s only read the first 3 scripts. He did tell us that at the start of the season, Dean will be back out of Purgatory and a year will have passed. We can look forward to the show filling in the blanks of what happened. “I’m waiting with bated breath as well,” he stated. Also, new mythology will be introduced! Ackles couldn’t say much more, claiming, “I’ve got a loud mouth as far as spilling the beans, so it’s probably best they don’t tell me things because I’ll tell you. If you want to keep things secret, don’t tell Jensen.” Ha!
As for the effects of Dean’s time in Purgatory, and its impact on his characterization, Ackles said that a new character will be introduced in the first episode that will help explain how Dean got out of Purgatory. That character will stick around and cause problems. “Because Dean is indebted to this character for his exit, it makes the situation sensitive and very volatile. […] That’s how the onion sort of gets peeled back is through this crazy relationship with this new character.” Interesting.
Check out the video below to see the full Ackles interview, and make sure to stick around for the very end of the video for added hilarity. Enjoy!

Loved the interview, some great questions and answers.
Jensen Ackles is not only absolutely gorgeous(holy whatever…he is stunning) but so talented and I’m actually glad to hear that he doesn’t necessarily go around reading about the show all the time(as shown by his lack of knowledge as to how hated the “Wedding” episode was), I do wish they’d tell him more spoilers so he could spill them to us though(as he says he has a big mouth). I like knowing what’s going to happen beforehand so I can prepare for it. LOL
Great questions, great video and a great actor. Jensen should just be the one to do promotion, it would be easier on me.
