The Emmys. One of the most exciting times in any TV fan’s year.
Airing Sunday, September 18 on FOX, this year’s award show will be hosted by Jane Lynch (Glee) and produced by Mark Burnett (Survivor, The Celebrity Apprentice). But before the golden statuettes are handed out, there’s one teeny detail that must be attended to.
The nominations.
The deadline to return filled-out Emmy nominating ballots is this Friday at 5pm PT and one can’t help but wonder whose names and what shows have been filled in on the scantron.
Emmy nominations tend to be full of shoo-ins, shockers and snubs. When Melissa McCarthy (Mike & Molly) and Joshua Jackson (Fringe) read the nominees on July 14, one can expect to hear multiple nominations for hit shows Mad Men, Glee and Modern Family.
But what about The Big Bang Theory – will Jim Parson’s Best Actor win last year help the series get a nod? Will newbie cable series The Killing and Game of Thrones be recognized? Who will take three-time winner Bryan Cranston’s spot on the ballot given that his show Breaking Bad isn’t airing during the eligibility period. And will the TV gods be shining down on Friday Night Lights and finally recognize the series and once again nominate its leads Kyle Chandler and Connie Britton.
These questions and more will be answered on July 14 and I look forward to reporting the nominations and covering other awards-related news as The Televixen’s Emmys blogger!
