Live Blogging BSG's Return!

Warning – this will most definitely contain spoilers for anyone who isn’t watching the return of BSG at 10 pm EST!

It’s a bittersweet moment – the beginning of the end of Battlestar Galactica.

In the opening sequence, both the Cylons and humans discover that Earth was nuked about 2000 years before. Things are pretty bleak. Roslin finds a live plant. Dualla finds an old pocket watch and a set of jacks. Upon returning to the Galactica, Roslin cannot stand to make a statement. Talk about starting things on a really hopeless note.

Starbuck and Leoben find the source of the colonial signal, and the wreckage of a viper, which has the same number as hers. I don’t know how this will bode for her.

A team of Cylons unearth the remains of a previous incarnation of the Centurions, and a conclusion is drawn that the 13th Tribe was Cylon. WTF?

Chief has a vision after touching a wall that has an outline of a person. He sees himself, shopping at a market, when the nukes hit.

Starbuck has found more of the wreckage. There’s a body. The helmet comes off partially to reveal blonde hair. The chain around its neck has a ring and a dog tag – it says K. Thrace. Does this mean she is, after all this time, the final Cylon?

Anders finds part of a guitar and hears “All Along the Watchtower” again. He realizes that he was there before, that he played the song that flipped the switch on him, Chief, Tory and Tigh. Can they be 2000 years old?

Fire becomes important. On the Galactica, Roslin burns the Book of Pythia. On Earth, Starbuck burns the body she found.

It almost looks like Lee and Dee might reunite. They’ve spent a great evening together, they kiss goodnight. When Gaeta calls her on her happiness in the face of everything, she says she wants to hang on to the moment. She doesn’t remember the last time she was that happy. When Gaeta leaves the room, she shoots herself. This is a move that makes no sense to me.

There’s some kind of madness that’s taken over the Galactica, and a drunken Admiral confronts a drunken Tigh. Adama’s close to ending it, but Tigh talks him out of it.

Starbuck lies to Lee about the Colonial signal, says she lost it. He breaks the news of Dualla’s death to her.

Lee finds the jacks that Dualla unearthed. Roslin holds on to the plant she found. The Admiral decides they will continue the search for a new home.

Tigh and D’Anna are on Earth. D’Anna decides she wants to stay behind, she’s tired of the fighting. Tigh is about to give up as well, and walks out to sea, and finds a piece of a mailbox. He holds it, and is taken back in time, to the last time he was on the planet. There’s an explosion, and who does he find trapped in rubble? His wife, Ellen. She makes a very huge statement about not worrying, they’ll be together again, they’ll be reborn again. Tigh concludes that Ellen is the Fifth Cylon.

My mind is so twisted right now. I need to rewatch this. I know that everything will be explained before the end, but there was something really unsettling about this episode. The fragmented nature really bothered me. Not that I’m unhappy about it, I’m just left with a crappy feeling.

So what did everyone else think? Is Ellen really the final Cylon? Or is it Starbuck? Did you enjoy this episode, or did you find it unsettling like I did. Sound off in the comments below.
